Job done. Didn't go into this stage overly motivated, after yesterdays and knowing I only had to defend the lead.
Climb 1 was comfortable. I was getting slightly annoyed that Masaka had so many of the strongest riders but wouldn't push at all to thin the field. If I fully sat in, I almost wonder if they would've waited until the last 100m to do anything.
I messaged everyone else in the lead group of 9 to sprint on the descent and see if we could cause some chaos. Dropped maybe their 2nd strongest rider, so it wasn't a total fail.
Pack thinned to 3 on the 2nd KOM and then the two guys from yesterday ended up slightly behind and playing cat and mouse with each other again. Gallagher would start to close the gap adn the Masaka guy would just sprint to catch him but not pull. Then he dropped his chain, so I had a solid gap.
The Masaka rider was slow on the descent. So I held a steady lead on the 3rd climb, and did the same on the final climb. So basically 4x15 mins sub threshold reps, not a bad way to finish the week.
Chasing Suisse GC, 3 years running. Probably the only ECRO tour really worth doing for my level these days if i'm honest! Good work to everyone who competed through a tough week of climbs!
