Wow, that felt good! Maybe it was the crisp 3 degree air in the garage vs the humidity the past few, but my god I was on.
Tried to split the field many times in the first 10km, but as much as anything I wanted to start the climbing with a respectable avg power, as I felt a decent 90 mins could be on.
Rode strong and mainly on the front on the Epic KOM, pushing when they eased and seeing what would come of it. 1 Masaka rider and Gallagher remained with me until it flattened out. I got a bit of a gap and with some momentum a gap opened to Michael, I thought he would come back on the descent.
Masaka rider and I crested together, but he had no downhill craft and the gap opened instantly. I settled into about 290-300w on the transition section, and noticed I wasn't even sweating yet and none of the Epic had felt hard at all. I decided before the Alpe i'd aim for 340+ in the first half and kick it home. Every corner was over 350w and I decided 20 min into the Alpe to lift to 380+.
Think I averaged 385 or so for the last 16 mins, and aerobically it still felt quite fine. So much so that when I crossed the line, I settled back into zone 3 for 5 mins to set a new 90 min power PB (336w). Good feels!
