5th on the timed KOM and 6th overall. Chip timing means the start line is more important than the finish line. Feels like anti racing.
Leah and Heather from Restart Esports were 1st and 2nd in the female race. The plan was to ride them to the front of the race and have them ride with the main front group until the 22min climb . The plan worked perfectly.
On the climb, the group was too large. Around 60 or more. I pushed up to the front and in the middle section I rode on the front setting a pace. Once we got near the top section there was only 8 riders hanging on and we got a great group rolling all the way back to the finish. But due the event being chip timing, you have no idea who is actually in a good position with their time to win. First across the line is irrelevant. Finished with that reduced front small group and ended up with 6th place.
Not as fast this year compared previous. But it was a nicer race to be honest since we forced a good selection at the front and had a good balanced group all working together all the way back. I enjoyed myself that's for sure :) Well, except for having to get out of bed at 4AM!
I used the PH30 carb chews and PH30 gels from Precision Fuel & Hydration. I'm really happy with them. I like the taste and texture. Can't fault the products at all.
Meeting my esports friends IRL and racing with them was amazing & the highlight of my spring so far. It just levels everything up and was an excellent weekend with lovely people.
People laugh at esports, but we made a plan. executed it and got top results. Proving indoor focused folks for most of the year can ride strong and well in a group outside and get results. And it feels WAY better than anything you will do inside on the trainer.
