Hello and welcome to my first Grassdune post!
On this platform, I would like to keep you updated on my trainings and races and everything else involved in my journey as a gravel racer.
On the 25th of May I flew across the pond for the first time in my life. Next Saturday I will be participating in the Unbound 200 mile gravel race. On this ride from Emporia, Kansas, we did a nice spin to get the travel legs to loosen up a bit. We took our Pickup truck and threw our bikes in, and rode out to the course. Gravel here is not that much different from that we have at home. It's mostly the scale of things which has me looking around the most.
Saying that everything is bigger in the US is an understatement to say the least. Huge trucks, roads and Walmarts are some of the things my European mind cannot really comprehend right now. Gravel roads are layed out on an endless grid of squares, and corners are a rare phenomenon which only occur once every 20 minutes.

I am currently in a constant surprised state finding out every little thing the Americans do differently from the way I'm used to. I am glad though to see a lot of respect for cyclists by other vehicles on the gravel farm roads. Which is until now my biggest and nicest surprise.
After seeing some parts of the track of Saturdays race, I am starting to realize it will also be a mental battle to stay alert/awake. I'm looking forward to finding out more about the track and the regular life in Emporia.
I hope you enjoyed my first Grassdune post.
Let me know what parts of my US trip you would like to hear about more!
